Push notification presets & connecting WhatsApp Business
Learn how to create reusable push notification presets and connect WhatsApp Business to send templates and messages through Pulse.

Push and WhatsApp templates work differently from Email, since both channels have their own format and setup requirements. This article covers both.
Creating a push notification preset
Push notifications are shorter and more structured than emails, so instead of a full block-based builder, you'll use a simple form called a push preset.
Clicking to create a new one opens a modal with these fields:
- Preset name — an internal name so you can find and reuse this preset later
- Title — the bold headline text shown in the notification
- Body — the supporting message text underneath the title
- Icon URL — a small icon shown alongside the notification
- Image URL — a larger image, if you want to include one
- Click URL — where the customer is taken if they click the notification
As you fill these in, a live preview on the right shows exactly how the notification will look, styled like a real browser notification, with a bell icon, your title, and your body text, so there's no guessing what customers will actually see.
Once you're happy with it, click Save as preset or Cancel to discard it. Saved presets can then be reused across multiple automations or campaigns rather than rebuilding the same notification each time.
Connecting WhatsApp Business
Before you can send any WhatsApp templates or messages at all, you need to connect a WhatsApp Business account.
This is done from Settings → WhatsApp, found under the Channels section of your settings sidebar, alongside Sender Domains, Sender Emails, and Push Notifications.
The connection screen explains clearly what this enables: "Send marketing messages and campaigns via WhatsApp to customers who have opted in."
Three capabilities are listed, each with a checkmark:
- Send pre-approved template messages to opted-in contacts
- Track delivery, read receipts and button clicks
- Automate WhatsApp messages in customer journeys
To connect, click Connect with Meta. Since WhatsApp Business is owned by Meta, this is where the actual authentication happens, and you'll be taken through Meta's own connection flow.
A note underneath reminds you that connecting means agreeing to WhatsApp Business Platform policies, worth reading if you haven't used WhatsApp Business before.
Why this connection step matters for templates
Until WhatsApp Business is connected, WhatsApp templates can't actually be submitted for Meta's approval or sent to customers.
Connecting this account is what makes the rest of your WhatsApp template and campaign work functional. For the template approval process, see the WhatsApp message templates article in Campaigns.
Where else this settings area is useful
While you're in Settings, it's worth knowing what else lives nearby.
Under Channels, you'll also find:
- Sender Domains
- Sender Emails — the same settings configured during workspace onboarding, editable here anytime
Under Developer, you'll find API Keys and Webhooks for more technical integrations.
Automation → Sending Policy is also worth a look if you want to control broader rules around how and when your automations are allowed to send.
